From Cherian to Socrates

Socrates drank hemlock but Cherian is denied tenure pretty much sums up what I think happened to Cherian George: For 'poisoning the minds of young future journalists'

Guilty of being ahead of his time. In a hurry tumbling into the future faster than the government can stomach? More patriotic than the government?

Of course I am telling my daughters to forget about ever applying to the school of communications at NTU. It has no credibility now. Don't waste your time there.

NTU has always been clumsy. The first university where you can fill in a form electronically to submit your resignation.

Yes, an almost invisible line separates clumsiness from stupidity.

Update: 2:25pm

Just as I thought. A few hours after I wrote the above, I came back to check the traffic. The posts I had put up after this have more than double the interest than this one. Cherian George pays the price because there is insufficient public support for  his work. Another way to view this is as I proposed earlier: too ahead of time. Timing is so important. The other group which is very bad at timing is the SDP. You need to be shrewd with the PAP or you cannot win. In fact, you deserve to lose.

Update: May 10

Cherian George moving on. He is going to Hong Kong Baptist University.

    Couldn't agree with this more.
I hope people take the cases of Professor Tay & Nizam into the big picture too. Ruling party will look to smear, terminate the supply of potentially good and vocal talents who may wish to join opposition parties to deter their growth and expansion, if people are still not connecting the dots. Best they proceed with discretion and lie low, until GE2016. Any pre-publicity to drum up your credibility will backfire on the potential candidate.
